MonolithSoft's Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is launching for the Nintendo Switch this Friday the 29th of May, and players who got the chance are already getting excited to revisit this timeless story in glorious HD.
Similarly, newcomers to the Xenoblade Chronicles series will be able to give this critically acclaimed title a try, and prove that the praise the game gets is actually quite legitimate. Unfortunately, new information seems to suggest that the game's resolution may be an issue.
According to information that has recently leaked online, MonolithSoft's soon-to-be-released Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition will run at 30 frames per second in a rather disappointing resolution of 504x720p while the Nintendo Switch is in dock mode and in 378x540p in handheld mode.
This information actually comes from the game's config files, where keen-eyed Twitter user MasaGratoR noticed that these resolutions for dock and handheld mode are the exact same ones that MonolithSoft used for Xenoblade Chronicles 2; art direction in the game is phenomenal, though, and it can fool you into believing it runs at a higher resolution.
Thanks to YouTube user Jansn Benchmarks we can see Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition in action, posted down below, and the game does look quite blurry — YouTube compression does make it look worse than it actually is, though — with the occasional frame rate dip.
MONOLITHSOFT’s epic Xenoblade Chronicles game, which originally launched in 2012 on the Wii system, is destined to be reborn on Nintendo Switch as Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. The game, which chronicles the adventures of Shulk and Fiora, is scheduled to launch for Nintendo Switch in 2020.
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition will release exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on the 29th of May.
