Anyone who's had the chance to play any of the games in Nintendo's popular Animal Crossing series will be able to tell you that an essential part of the game is being able to sell all kinds of items — be it fruit, vegetables, wood, and so on — to the game's villagers or other players online.
A few weeks ago, Elijah Wood made news because he visited another player's island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and the whole experience was simply wholesome. The bottom line here is that interacting with other players and selling goods plays an important part in Animal Crossing games.
However, some Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have been getting in trouble lately, as their messages have been recently deleted by Facebook. The reason? Facebook seems to think that these players are running some kind of shady drug-selling empire, and it's simply hilarious.
The thing here is that in Animal Crossing players can sell plants and weeds, and Facebook has begun deleting messages that contain the words "weed" and "weeds" in them. This is, of. course, due to the social media platform's community guidelines, so most of the dleted messages aren't really being read by a human, but an algorithm.
The reports come from various Facebook groups, including a private Animal Crossing group from the United Kingdom, that has amassed over 30 thousand members, where Group Admins have recently encouraged players to be creative and replace the words "weed" and "weeds" with words that may not prompt a ban from Facebook.
This is a recurring issue, by the way, as many other Animal Crossing-related groups have also been reporting that Facebook is deleting their messages that contain the aforementioned words; an issue that many agree is stupid.
While it is more than understandable to see Facebook deleting messages that can be somewhat suggestive, it is also funny to think that it is deleting messges about players who just want to sell their Animal Crossing items to other players. Animal Crossing of all games. You just can't make this up.
