Cory Barlog, Creative Director for Santa Monica's brilliant new take on
God of War, will be attending next year's PAX South, which will be taking place from January 18th through the 20th at Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Centre in San Antonio TX, where he will be presenting the opening keynote speech.
The news comes from Gamasutra, who posted an unedited press release with a statement issued by Penny Arcade webcomic writer, and co-founder, Jerry Holkins—who praises Barlog for his achievements with
God of War. The statement reads as follows:
Doing a sequel to a beloved game is a unique challenge, and so is rebooting a franchise for a modern audience – Cory Barlog has done both,” said Jerry Holkins, co-founder, Penny Arcade. “We’re overjoyed to have him join us at PAX South. If I get the chance, I’m gonna tell him about this place I know in San Antonio where they make the guacamole with Orange Juice instead of Lime. It sounds crazy, but it works.
Cory Barlog helped shape Santa Monica's
God of War in order to reinvent the series and give it a fresh air without alienating fans of the series, but this is not his first time working on the series since he has been involved in the
God of War series since the beginning, working as the lead animator for the first game and taking the director's seat in
God of War II and
God of War III.
His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive…And teach his son to do the same. This startling reimagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series—satisfying combat; breathtaking scale; and a powerful narrative—and fuses them anew.
God of War is available exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
