IMMORTALS: FENYX RISING Is The Result Of A Bug In ASSASSIN'S CREED ODYSSEY, Ubisoft Reveals

A recent interview with Ubisoft Quebec's Scott Phillips has revealed that the soon-to-be-released Immortals: Fenyx Rising is actually the result of a bug the developers found in Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Many have compared Ubisoft Quebec's soon-to-be-released Immortals: Fenyx Rising to the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Both are open-world titles with an eye-catching art style, and that focus around exploration and solving puzzles, and said comparisons are fair.

Immortals: Fenyx Rising has also got things in common with Assassin's Creed series, as it has drawn quite a lot of inspiration from Ubisoft's wildly popular open-world series. As a matter of fact, the development team for Immortals: Fenyx Rising is the same team that worked on Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Interestingly enough, the idea of Immortals: Fenyx Rising actually comes from Assassin's Creed Odyssey, but the reasons aren't necessarily the ones players may think. Yes, the game is also tackling Greek mythology, but the real reason actually involves a bug.

In a recent interview with Ubisoft Quebec's Scott Phillips, Director of Immortals Fenyx Rising, a bug that occurred when sailing in Assassin's Creed Odyssey would see the boat's crew turned into cyclops, and this gave them the idea to approach Greek mythology with less realism than the one expected in the Assassin's Creed series.

"There was a bug at the time where you'd be sailing on your trireme and instead of having a normal human crew, you'd have a crew of cyclops. We knew that was wrong for Odyssey, but it also sparked this idea of, 'Actually it would be quite cool if we can break those historical bonds and just go full force into mythology,'" Phillips explained.

Immortals: Fenyx Rising was initially announced during last year's E3, although at the time it was called Gods & Monsters, and was expected to release in February. The developers felt the need to push back the release, and it will finally be launching on Thursday the 3rd of December.

Immortals Fenyx Rising is a fresh and witty take on the open world action adventure genre, featuring dynamic action, combat and stories inspired by Greek mythology. Roam freely across a beautifully stylized world and use extraordinary abilities gifted by the gods against fearsome mythological monsters. Treacherous trials, heroic feats and the very underworld itself await your bravery.

Immortals: Fenyx Rising will release for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC(Epic Games Store), and Stadia on Thursday the 3rd of December.
