Last week, Square Enix officially announced that three of the four previously announced DLC character episodes (titled Episode Aranea, Episode Lunafreya, and Episode Noctis) for the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy XV have been canned, as the cancellation was apparently the direct result of developer Luminous Productions' recent refocusing, which reportedly cost the company a hefty $33 million.

It looks like we just learned why the company has decided to abandon Final Fantasy XV. According to the LinkedIn profile of a Luminous Production’s 3D Character Model Lead Artist, Tomohiro Tokoro, who previously worked on Final Fantasy Type-0 HD and Final Fantasy XV, the designer is currently developing on a "new mobile title for China" and, most importantly, a "new AAA title for PS5."

While the aforementioned PlayStation 5 has not been announced by Sony yet, it's possibly just a matter of time, as we know that Microsoft is sparing no expense to manufacture the successor of Xbox One X, condemned "Scarlett." Most reports indicate that the PlayStation 5 release date will be at some point in 2020, as Sony still has some big-budget PS4 exclusives (like Death Stranding) to launch.
