Players who got the chance to play any of the games in the
Viewtiful Joe series will be able to tell you just how great it was; from great level design and gameplay mechanics to a phenomenal cel-shaded art style that has made the games stand the test of time graciously.
The
Viewtiful Joe series consists of
Viewtiful Joe and
Viewtiful Joe 2, plus two spin-off titles in the form of
Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble and
Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble!; with the latter being the final game to ever release for any platform, and that was all the way back in 2005.
Needless to say, fans of the series have been wanting for another game to be made for almost 15 years — considering that
Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble! released in November of 2005, of course. It isn't just fans who want a Viewtiful Joe 3 to be made, as Director Hideki Kamiya has recently revealed that he would love for the game to be made.
In a recent interview with Nintendo Enthusiast, during PAX East 2020, Hideki Kamiya was asked about the possibility of a brand-new
Viewtiful Joe game being made, and it turns out that not only he would love for another one to be made, but he reveals that it would give him the chace to finish his
Viewtiful Joe trilogy; reminding us, however, that it isn't really up to him.
"
I have no control over that! [laughs] That's Capcom’s choice! However, we've seen some PlatinumGames games come out on the Nintendo Switch, like Okami and Bayonetta and Devil May Cry," Kamiya explained.
"
There are a few things that have not actually come to the Switch, though, like Resident Evil 2 and Viewtiful Joe. Personally, I really hope that it comes back. I don't want it to be lost in the sands of time, so to speak. I’m requesting it! I would love it if that would happen."
Also, there’s been a Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2, but there has been no 3. So, for me personally, I would also love to finish that trilogy with a Viewtiful Joe 3."
Kamiya was very clear about the fact that it really is up to Capcom to revive the series, but he's more than willing to direct a brand-new entry in the series if the Japanese developer does decide to bring the series back. Hopefully Capcom hears Kamiya's request to bring the series back especially now that
they seem to be bringing back a bunch of their long-neglected series. Fingers crossed.
