Internet sleuths have uncovered a series of updates to the Rockstar Games website that many believe to be an indication that some sort of Grand Theft Auto 6 announcement is imminent.
Spotted by X/Twitter user GameRollGTA, Rockstar added numerous snippets of code to its website, specifically mentioning screenshots (referred to as screens) and cover art for GTA 6. There are also mentions of digital purchases/pre-orders.
Another tweet from GTAVI_Countdown reveals that the change was noticeable on the Rockstar website before being taken down.
The page has since been removed but not before the code was copied to pastebin. Unfortunately, the links to the images go to "Not Found" pages.
It's speculated that Rockstar is gearing up to make some sort of announcement for the highly anticipated game. Grand Theft Auto 6 was officially revealed back in December 2023.
Rockstar shared an impressive trailer that confirmed the game will be set in the fictional state of Leonida — based on Florida — which includes Vice City, a fictionalized version of Vice City. The trailer poked fun at the crazy memes associated with Florida and parodied contemporary American culture with satirical depictions of social media and influencer culture.
Not much is known about the actual game itself although the story is expected to follow the criminal duo inspired by Bonnie and Clyde. We got our first look at Lucia, who appears to be the first female protagonist in Grand Theft Auto history.
Rockstar hasn't shared much about the game in the five months since that first trailer, but the developer's parent company Take-Two Interactive is holding an investor call on May 16. It's possible that Rockstar could've been preparing to release some screenshots and possibly more information about Grand Theft Auto 6 ahead of the investor meeting next month.
The theories become even wilder as Rockstar recently purged most of its Instagram account, something the developer also did before revealing the first GTA 6 trailer. As Reddit user Ok_Owl_9137 noticed, there are only 14 posts currently live, leading to speculation that some sort of announcement could be made on May 14.
While screenshots would be exciting, many fans are hoping for even more information, such as a release date for the game.
Rockstar previously stated that Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2025; however, there have been various reports suggesting the game could get delayed. If pre-order details are shared soon, then that perhaps means a release date has been locked in.
