The Game Awards 2025 kicked off with some bass-thumping action. Tonight's show promises plenty of exciting announcements and during the Act One pre-show, AUDIOMECH was revealed.
From the same developer of Audiosurf, the popular and award-winning music-based puzzle racing video game, AUDIOMECH uses the same concept, turning your music into weapons and also your enemies.
In the reveal trailer, we see music powering different weapons, such as the bass blade, vocal cannon, and treble bombs. Presumably, each weapon is affected by a different area of a song. But just as your music powers your weapons, it also fuels your enemies.
AUDIOMECH will not only harness the power of your music library, but will also recognize streaming as well. According to the game's description, "You can stream from the internet, play mp3 files, or even set up a microphone. Any audio playing on your machine works!"
The reveal trailer was a little vague, but a Steam description page provides a bit more clarity.
Your music paints the world, and controls the action
Everything RED reacts to booming BASS.
Everything PURPLE is driven by VOCALS and LEAD INSTRUMENTS.
Everything BLUE is controlled by high-pitched TREBLE.
(colors can be changed in the options)
Battle against music-reactive bosses and bullets
Switch between your mech’s 3 forms: Bass Knight, Vocal Gunship, and Treble Bomber to strike back. Everything synchronizes to any audio playing on your computer.
AUDIOMECH will offer five different ways to play: Relax Mode, which turns you invincible so you can just enjoy the game; Touring Mode, which regerates hearts over time; Headliner Mode, where after each wave, you choose 1 heart or a powerful upgrade; Metal Mode, a hardcore experience that ups the threats and removes upgrades and heart recovery; and Boss Rush, which is focused entirely on boss fights.
AUDIOMECH doesn't have a release date; however, fans will be able to download and play a demo of the game starting tomorrow, December 12h. The demo will be available through Steam. Despite releasing over 10 years ago, both Audiosurf and Audiosurf 2 are still fully playable, and available to purchase through Steam. So if you like the demo for AUDIOMECH, you can get your music fix through these games while you wait.
