Developer NetEase Games has shared the first "Dev Vision" for Marvel Rivals. What is essentially the equivalent of a dev diary, the video features creative director Guangguang as he highlights the roadmap of future content planned for the upcoming hero shooter.
Marvel Rivals is set to launch on December 6, 2024. This will coincide with the launch of the game's inaugural season, titled "Dooms' Rise." The game's kick-off season will only last for one month but will introduce six more characters, bringing the total "launch" roster of Marvel Rivals to 33 heroes.
To date, 27 heroes have been revealed for Marvel Rivals, meaning six more are still to be revealed. The current roster of playable characters at launch right now includes:
- Adam Warlock
- Black Panther
- Captain America
- Doctor Strange
- Groot
- Hela
- Hulk
- Iron Man
- Jeff the Land Shark
- Loki
- Luna Snow
- Magik
- Magneto
- Mantis
- Moon Knight
- Namor
- Peni Parker
- Psylocke
- Punisher
- Rocket Raccoon
- Scarlet Witch
- Spider-Man
- Star-Lord
- Storm
- Thor
- Venom
- Winter Solider
As you can see, the roster includes heroes and villains from all corners of the Marvel universe, so it's anyone's guess as to who could be next to join the fray. Thankfully, it seems like we won't have to wait long to find out. Marvel Rivals launches on December 6th and Season 0: Dooms' Rise will only run for a month, so the next six characters should be revealed soon.
In addition to the new heroes, Guangguang also confirmed there will be nine maps in the game by the end of the season. There will be 8 maps for Quick Match and Competitive modes along with a Conquest map and a new Practice Range.
The specifics of Dooms' Rise is being kept under wraps right now, but Guangguang teased that "it's all about the chaos caused by Doctor Doom's time experiments unleashing the Timestream Entanglement, resulting in the formation of four new "Chronoverses": the Techno-Dystopia of 2099; the Present timeline; the Unstable Space-Time of the Mosaic timeline; and the Collapsing timeline."
"Future, pasts, and alternate realities will be woven into our ever-evolving narrative where every match you play tells a story," Guangguang added.
Dooms' Rise will be the shortest season for Marvel Rivals. Season 1 will begin in early January 2025 and will serve as the framework for all of the future full seasons for Marvel Rivals going forward. Each season will last for approximately three months and include new heroes, maps, Team-Up Abilities, and possibly new game modes. We don't know what Season 1 will entail right now, but the groundwork has already been laid.
As a free-to-play game, Marvel Rivals will rely on microtransactions, but nothing will be pay-to-win. Everything you can purchase will be cosmetic-based. Season 0 will have a battle pass packed with costumes and cosmetics but will only have half the content of a full Seasonal Battle Pass since Season 0 is only 30 days. It will be priced accordingly, though.
Marvel Rivals launches on December 6, 2024. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC
