Zynga's free-to-play competitive shooter Star Wars: Hunters is coming to PC. The game was originally released for Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android devices earlier this year. Now it will be making the jump to PC, a move many in the community have been hoping for.
The wait won't be long either. The first Steam Playtest will run from December 13th through December 16th, with a second Steam Playtest planned for January 10th through January 13th. Unfortunately, sign-ups took place earlier this week, but there's always a chance for extra invites to be sent out during the actual tests. It's not uncommon for developers and community influencers to send out codes.
The first Steam Playtests will include improved visual fidelity and custom keybindings. It will also be the first chance to play Sprocket's ability rework.
Assuming all goes well, these playtests will lead into Early Access, which will launch on January 27, 2025. This will include the new Courscant Underworld battlefield and the new Kubaz damage Hunter, Glikkin. Cross platform progression and cross play will also be supported.
Join the greatest Hunters from across the Star Wars™ galaxy on the planet of Vespaara where high-stakes competitions are awaiting them in the Arena. Engage in thrilling third person combat to dominate your opponents in a range of adventurous battlegrounds that evoke iconic Star Wars worlds. Choose from a range of tactically diverse Hunters, customize them, use your skill to find a winning strategy and reap the spoils of victory in the all-new free-to-play game.
Star Wars: Hunters features an impressive roster of playable characters that hail from all corners of the galaxy. From the dark side assassin, Rieve, to the Mandalorian vanguard Aran Tal, there is no shortage of fearsome warriors to choose from.
Pilbush, an Ewok Grenadier, is the latest to jump into the arena. A bombastic warrior and a super fan of the Rebel Alliance, Pilbush uses a custom built AT-ET to fire explosive grenades and traverse the battlefield. This sort of creative character is exactly what makes Star Wars: Hunters so fun and unique. There is so much imagination and thought that goes into each character and their ability kit.
Star Wars: Hunters is free-to-play and will likely remain so when it comes to PC. The game launched to mixed reviews, but there's only a handful of them currently on Metacritic, where it sits at a 57/100. The fast-paced nature of the matches and the action-oriented gameplay were praised; however, the game ultimately doesn't bring much of anything new to the class-based shooter genre.
