Gearbox's last title, Battleborn, launched back in 2016, but the acclaimed creators of six DLC in the Half-Life series, three Brothers in Arms and two Borderlands games, and two terrible things every sane person wishes to forget about, Duke Nukem: Forever and Aliens: Colonial Marines, hasn't released anything new since then, teasing new Borderlands and Brothers in Arms on numerous occasions.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford confirmed that Borderlands 3 exists at Pax East 2016, also revealing that "it might be very good." Borderlands 3 had also leaked right before E3 2018 via a Walmart Canada placeholder, but it was one of those rare titles that wasn't confirmed during the expo. Instead of showcasing Borderlands 3, Gearbox decided to show (behind the closed doors) yet untitled FPS that combines the action of fast-paced 1v1 combat with the metagame strategy of a collectible card game.
This year's Game Awards will be livestreamed on Thursday, and it looks Pitchford is teasing the official announcement of Borderlands 3 during the upcoming celebration. His latest Tweets are focused on number 3, and one of them reveals that it "feels like E3 all over again" at Gearbox. While nothing has been confirmed yet, Borderlands 3 may be one of the ten new titles that will be revealed at TGA 2018.
