Squadron 42, just like the whole
Star Citizen initiative can't match its own goals. The solo campaign was announced in 2014 as a spiritual successor to
Wing Commander. After a strike of delays it was supposed to came out this year, but it has been delayed once again. Finally, the developers from Foundry 42 shed some light on the upcoming
Star Citizen spin-off.
The players will join the United Empire of Earth Navy as one of the rookie pilots. The game mixes elements borrowed from
EVE Online, Elite: Dangerous and the
Mass Effect series and teases "
a new level of immersion as you seamlessly transition between daring dogfights in space and exhilarating ground combat". The game is planned to be released in chapters.
Foundry 42 managed to gather an impressive cast. During the game you'll surely recognize faces and voices of Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson, Mark Strong, and Andy Serkis. Hamill, who's best known as Luke Skywalker from the Star Wars series, has a short message to you in the new teaser:
This next-generation, sci-fi epic set in the Star Citizen Universe, features an award-winning cast starring in a cinematic story where you fly, battle and explore alongside the United Empire of Earth's best Naval pilots and Marines.
