While we all wait patiently to hear something about a possible future for the Knights of the Old Republic franchise, it' been revealed today that before developing that game's sequel, Obsidian wanted to make an action RPG which would have been set in the Star Wars Universe and used the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance engine. That was revealed by Obsidian CEO Fergus Urquhart in a new interview.
"There hadn't been a game like that, like an action, Star Wars action-RPG," Urquhart tells IGN, before adding that their pitch to LucasArts was "What about using the Dark Alliance engine and making a Star Wars action-RPG?" Sadly, they didn't bite and it never came to pass, but he went on to add that he would like to revisit the idea down the line. "I still want to make this game or a game like it."
Not getting to work on this game meant that they made Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords instead, but with any luck, they'll get the chance to head back to this Galaxy very soon...
