For 10 years, Riot Games has focused solely on
League of Legends. While the developer has implemented various game modes, they've all largely been based on the MOBA concept. Now, after a decade of hard work turning it into one of the largest eSports titles, the developer is looking to expand their reach into other genres.
Announced during the
League of Legends 10th anniversary stream was
Project A (currently a codename), is a new character-based, first-person tactical shooter with a focus on competitive play.
Project A won't be pulling characters from the
League of Legends universe, but will intsead feature its own lethal cast of characters with unique abilities.
Riot isn't just trying to enter they tactical shooter genre, they are trying to inject their own creativity into it. They are focusing largely on addressing issues that often plague other competitive shooters, including
"going big on things like global infrasturcture and netcode designed to go to war on peekers advantage." Project A is also being designed with an anti-cheat mentality at the forefront of development.
Project A is still early in development, but more details are expected to be shared in 2020. The game was only announced for PC.
