If you've played League of Legends long enough, then you know that the game has received next to no controversy via the business end of things. Normally, any problems or social media hiccups come from the competitive side of things with all of the professional players who sometimes do some really dumb stuff. So it's kind of surprising when you realize that Riot made such a dumb move with the release of a piece of their content, and never thought they'd be called out for it.
Back in 2014, Riot released a downloadable skin for the infamous ADC Lucian called "Striker Lucian". The skin had heavy soccer themes and gave Lucian the complete baller look, goggles and all. But it ended up causing Lucian to have a striking resemblance to Edgar Davids, a well known foot-baller. Now, Davids tried to contact Riot back in 2015 and asked them to stop using the skin as it basically stole his likeness.
Riot tried to defend themselves by saying that none of their millions of players would ever confuse the skin as looking as the famous athletic star, but a tweet from 2014 really bit them on the booty. A Riot ex-QA tweeted out "for all you wondering, Striker Lucian was inspired by soccer pro Edgar Davids." That tweet has since been deleted, but thanks to it, Riot's defense has been completely blown out of the water. Now some professionals have come into the situation to assess just how much of a payout Riot will have to give Davids. There is a lesson to be learned here however, and that lesson is to never make boneheaded decisions no matter if you think you won't get caught.
