LEGO is at it again — taking a beloved franchise and adapting it into a cutesy adventure with action, adventure, and plenty of humor. The latest title, revealed during the Summer Game Fest showcase, is LEGO Horizon Adventures.
Described as a "playful and light-hearted story inspired by the event of the world Horizon," the game is set in the distant future in a land made of LEGO bricks. Much of what is shown closely aligns with the Horizon video games, from the post-apocalyptic wasteland to the giant mech-like dinosaurs. But it's all done in that signature LEGO tone and style.
The game is introduced by a Hog Dog Man minifig, because why not? But soon jumps into gameplay which very much looks in line with other previous LEGO adventures. We see Aloy, the game's main character, and other post-apocalyptic survivors exploring the brick-based wasteland, taking on mech dinos, discovering secrets, and collecting shiny studs. There's also a base-building element and plenty of fun, outlandish costumes to dress in.
In a distant future, the land is made of LEGO bricks and incredible dinosaur-like machines roam the Earth. Aloy, the game’s leading hero, is found in a cave as a baby and raised by a grizzled huntsman called Rost, who teaches her the way of the wilds. One day, Aloy embarks on a quest to discover her true destiny. Guided by a thousand-year-old hologram of a scientist called Elisabet, Aloy must confront Helis, the leader of a group of sun worshipers who bow to an Ancient Evil shrouded in mystery. There’s much more in store for Aloy and her friends, as their adventure sends them across the tallest mountains and deepest cauldrons — all beautifully recreated in LEGO elements.
While the original Horizon games for PlayStation are single-player adventures, LEGO will allow you to explore the wasteland either on your own or with another player via couch or online co-op. The game has been designed for two-player action without needing split-screen.
LEGO Horizon Adventures is set to launch this Holiday season on PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. It was confirmed that it will be day-one on all platforms, rather than PlayStation having a timed exclusivity period.
The reveal of LEGO Horizon Adventures comes just shortly after we received tangible LEGO sets based on the PlayStation video game. Released early this year was the Horizon Forbidden West: Tallneck, a 1,222-piece set of the most iconic Horizon machine.
