From the fast-paced action of Marathon to the sprawling open world of Crimson Desert, March saw the release of multiple high profile games for the PlayStation 5. While some of you are probably stlil deep into exploring Pearl Abyss's massive RPG, a new month is upon us.
April looks to be another busy month for gamers, marked by the release of the highly anticipated PS5 exclusive, Saros. Arriving at the end of this month, April 30, Saros is a "haunting, sci-fi adventure" from Housemarque, the creators of Returnal.
Although not a direct sequel to Returnal, it is a spiritual successor that takes many of the same ideas and builds on them, while introducing a completely new world, characters, and story. Saros retains the fast-paced, bullet-hell shooting that made Returnal so intense, with chaotic third-person combat and crazy enemy encounters. It also adds roguelite mechanics with permanent progression, so each run helps you grow stronger instead of starting over from scratch every time.
Other exciting upcoming games on the horizon include Starfield finally making its way to PS5, the long-awaited sci-fi adventure Pragmata, and the stylish detective roguelike Mouse P.I. for Hire. After launching as an Xbox exclusive back in 2023, Bethesda's massive open-world space RPG is fially headed to PlayStation along with the "Free Lanes" update adding smoother space travel, new points of interest, and improved ship customization. Then there's Pragmata, arriving on April 17. This is a quirky sci-fi adventure mixing third-person shooting and hacking as you explore a mysterious lunar research statio with the robot girl Diana and her companion Hugh, uncovering secrets involving rogue AI.
A game I'm personally looking forward to is Mouse P.I. for Hire. This retro cartoon-inspired first-person shooter is loosely based on classic Mickey Mouse designs, and puts you in the shoes of a hard-boiled mouse detective solving cases with zany weapons and rubberhose animation charm.
