PlayStation CEO Reveals That They Are Aiming For Value With PLAYSTATION 5, But This Doesn't Mean Lowest Price

PlayStation Chief Operating Officer Jim Ryan has recently talked about the highly anticipated PlayStation 5, and how Sony are aiming to give consumers the best possible; this doesn't mean lowest price, however.

Sony Interactive Entertainment and PlayStation will finally be giving oplayers some official information about the highly anticipated, and log-awaited PlayStation 5, with a special presentation that is expected to be streamed online next Thursday the 4th of June.

We have already seen the all-new DualSense controller, and Sony has also given us a pretty good idea of what this new device will do for the future of gaming; promising to give players an even more immersive video gaming experience than ever before.

Sony has yet to give us our first at the console, and they also have to reveal the PlayStation 5's price — which, as many of you may already know, is what can make or break the consumers' decision when purchasing a next generation console.

Some of you may also remember that Microsoft's price reveal hurt the Xbox One before it even launched, and the company struggled for quite a while after revealing that the console would cost $499 USD, while Sony's PlayStation 4 was revealed to retail for $399 USD.

Neither Sony nor Microsoft have revelaled the retail price for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X, but Sony Interactive Entertainment Chief Operating Officer Jim Ryan has shared some interesting details about the console itself; at least, in terms of price value.

According to Ryan, the video game industry has proved to thrive during economically difficult times, but he reassures players that the people at Sony are aiming for "the best possible value" in regards to the PlayStation 5. However, he is also quick to address that value doesn't necessarily mean lowest price.

"It's quite logical, people don't have the money to go out so they stay at home. Now, who knows how this recession is going to look, how deep it will be and how long it will last. It could be that the historic templates, the historic models, that have applied in the past may not apply in the future.

I don't necessarily mean lowest price. Value is a combination of many things. In our area it means games, it means number of games, depth of games, breadth of games, quality of games, price of games… all of these things and how they avail themselves of the feature set of the platform," explaiend Ryan during a recent interview with GamesIndustry.

Next Thursday's PlayStation 5 presentation will mainly focus on video games, so we may not even get to see the console itself being unveiled by Sony. Maybe Sony will reveal both the console and its retail value, but rumour has it that this won't be the case. All we can do for now is wait, and hope that the console will justify whatever price Sony sets for the PlayStation 5.
