Sony has announced October's lineup of free PlayStation Plus games, and one of them is perfect for the spooky season that's now upon us. With Halloween right around the corner, PS Plus members can look forward to playing one of the best survival horror games of all time for free on PlayStation 5 — Dead Space!

Released in 2023, Dead Space is a remake of the 2008 classic survival horror video game, rebuilt for a deeper and more immersive experience. Players once again step into the suit of Isaac Clarke, an engineer navigating a ship filled with mutated Necromorphs. The synopsis reads:

Isaac Clarke is an everyman engineer on a mission to repair a vast Planet Cracker-class ship, the USG Ishimura, only to discover something has gone horribly wrong. The ship’s crew has been slaughtered and Isaac’s beloved partner, Nicole, is lost somewhere on board. Now alone and armed with only his engineering tools and skills, Isaac races to uncover the nightmarish mystery of what happened aboard the Ishimura in hopes of finding Nicole. Trapped with hostile creatures called Necromorphs, Isaac faces a battle for survival, not only against the escalating terrors of the ship but his own crumbling sanity.

The Dead Space remake was built in the Frostbite Engine with all of the systems rebuilt from scratch. New features such as volumetric and dynamic lighting were introduced, while the newer console hardware of the PS5 allowed for seamless transitions between levels without any loading screens.

The remake, like the original, was praised for its environment and horror elements. IGN's review especially took note of the remake's "spectacularly re-imagined action scenes" and "smartly and subtly enhanced story," while Polygon praised the new audio system.

In addition to Dead Space, PS Plus owners can look forward to getting two more games for free: WWE 2K24 (PS4/PS5) and Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! (PS4, PS5).

WWE 2K24 is the latest installment in Visual Concepts and 2K's professional wrestling sports video game series. It's a celebration of 40 years of WrestleMania, featuring a large cast of iconic superstars — both past and present — and numerous game modes, including a retelling of WrestleMania's greatest moments.

Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! may look cutesy, but it's actually a psychological horror experience — making it another perfect Halloween play.

You play as the main character, who reluctantly joins the Literature Club in search of a romantic interest. With every poem you write and every choice you make, you’ll charm your crush and begin to unfold the horrors of school romance. Do you have what it takes to crack the code of dating sims and get the perfect ending? This game is not suitable for children or those who are easily disturbed.

All three of these games can be claimed by PlayStation Plus members beginning October 1st. They will be available to add to your library until November 4th.
