It's been over two years since we first explored the Lands Between in FromSoftware's award-winning action role-playing game Elden Ring. But at last, the game's highly anticipated expansion is almost upon us.
Shadow of the Erdtree is set to arrive next month and today we received a new CGI trailer that reveals more of what players will uncover in the Realm of Shadow.
"Venture deeper into the lore in the expansion and bear witness," FromSoftware teases. "Will you choose to follow Miquella?"
"Guided by Empyrean Miquella, players are beckoned to the Land of Shadow, a place obscured by the Erdtree where the goddess Marika first set foot," reads the DLC's story description. "In these strange new lands, players discover the dark secrets of the world as they meet others who follow in Miquella’s footsteps with ulterior motives."
Elden Ring's vast world is a creation by FromSfotware director Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin, author of the fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire. And while today's trailer focuses largely on the history of the Realm of Shadow, most players are probably more looking forward to the challenge that awaits them in this new land.
FromSoftware hasn't spoiled too much regarding the challenging bosses that lurk in the deep within this new world, but has teased that the expansion will add new weapons, equipment, weapon skills, and magic not found in the base game of Elden Ring. Additionally, players will encounter new enemies and bosses, as well as plotlines that further increase the game's role-playing freedom.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is said to be FromSoftware's largest expansion to date. Players will be able to seamlessly travel back and forth between its vast maps "interspersed with diverse situations and meticulous dungeons where menacing enemies roam."
