GOD OF WAR Is FINALLY Getting A Live-Action Adaptation As A TV Series From Prime Video

Fans have been dying to see God of War receive a live-action adaptation for years now, and one is finally coming in the form of a TV series being developed by Prime Video. Find more details after the jump!

Between Uncharted, The Last of Us, and Ghost of Tsushima, Sony is finally capitalising on its hit PlayStation franchises by adapting them to film and for television. Now, God of War is next as Deadline reports that a live-action TV series is in the works at Amazon's Prime Video.

The Expanse creators and executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby are developing the property alongside The Wheel of Time executive producer and showrunner Rafe Judkins. Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions are obviously also involved with the project.

Recently, news broke that Twisted Metal has received a series order at Peacock, with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie attached. As for Amazon Studios, they're hard at work on TV shows based on both the Fallout and Mass Effect franchises. As a result, God of War promises to join an already impressive lineup of video game adaptations on the streaming service.

In the God of War games, players control Kratos, a Spartan warrior who is sent by the Greek gods to kill Ares, the god of war. As the story progresses, Kratos is revealed to be Ares' former servant, who had been tricked into killing his own family and is haunted by terrible nightmares. It's unclear which instalment of the series this TV show will be based on, but the latest effort would work well.

There's a big Marvel Cinematic Universe connection with that creative team as Fergus and Ostby (who landed an Oscar nomination for Children of Men) co-wrote Iron Man. Judkins, meanwhile, was a writer and producer on ABC's popular Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D TV series.
