A brand new
Kingdom Hearts game is in the works at Square Enix. This is unsurprising given how well
Kingdom Hearts III sold —
it's the bestselling instalment in the history of the Kingdom Hearts franchise.
This news comes courtesy of a job listing that Square Enix recently made public. Specifically, the listing calls for a developer to join the Osaka-based Square Enix team. The job is to do with
"HD development of the Kingdom Hearts series," but no other information is revealed beyond that.
You can check out the listing for yourself here.
Fans seem confident that the listing is in regards to a remaster or spinoff rather than a new mainline instalment or expansion for
Kingdom Hearts III. The Re:Mind DLC will apparently be making its debut within the remainder of the year, thus hiring someone to work on it now would be a curious decision.
As there was a massive fourteen years between
Kingdom Hearts II and
Kingdom Hearts III, it's unlikely that the listing has anything to do with
Kingdom Hearts IV. The most likely option is that it's a new remaster or spinoff, as mentioned above, or a port of
Kingdom Hearts III for the Nintendo Switch or PC.
KINGDOM HEARTS III tells the story of the power of friendship as Sora and his friends embark on a perilous adventure. Set in a vast array of Disney and Pixar worlds, KINGDOM HEARTS follows the journey of Sora, a young boy and unknowing heir to a spectacular power.
Kingdom Hearts III is now available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
