Insomniac Games' Developer Says That Listening To The Fans Of The RESISTANCE Series Was A Mistake

Insomniac Games' success comes mostly from their relationship with Sony. The Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank and Resistance series are some of the most important franchises in the Playstation history. After the split with the Japanese company, the studio tried to create new IPs such as Fuse and Sunset Overdrive, but didn't find a triumph there. Now, Insomniac is working on Spider-Man and hopes to return to good, old times.

Talking about old times, the Resistance and Killzone series were supposed to be Sony's answer to Microsoft's tremendous success of Halo. Resistance: Fall of Man achieved a success despite some major problems, but Resistance 2 changed a lot of already established mechanics and it didn't please the fanbase, to say the least.

Insomniac chief brand officer Ryan Schneider explained why they thought that listening to the most vocal group of fans was right: "One of the hardest lessons we learned [at Insomniac] was the shift between Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2," Schneider said. "We were relatively inexperienced when it came to interacting with our community at that point in time. Social media and community were still in their relatively early days, and we over-indexed on how much we listened to our fanbase versus trusting ourselves."

Thanks to listening to the voice of fans, Resistance 2 was a different game than the developer initially planned. That also didn't please the fanbase, as many fans preferred the gameplay of the first entry of the series. As for now, Insomniac trusts their own skills and vision of game developing.

The Resistance trilogy of PlayStation 3 games dared players to envision an alternate history based on the premise that an alien scourge obliterated Earth in the 1950s.

This first-person shooter franchise is best known for the menacing Chimera — humans converted into various forms of hideous aliens, and an arsenal of upgradeable next-generation weapons combining human and Chimeran technology.

The trilogy story takes place in England and America, and follows the journeys of Sgt. Nathan Hale and the disgraced former Lt. Joseph Capelli as they attempt to save what’s left of humanity.
