Yes, this holiday season looks like it's going to be the battle of the sequels.

Resistance 2 is scheduled to be released exclusively for the PS3, while Gears Of War 2 will be coming out exclusively for the Xbox 360. The original titles for both were wildly successful and sales are expected to be similar for the sequels.

Sony vice president of product marketing Scott Steinberg feels confident that Resistance will be able to hold its own against the Microsoft giant that is Gears.

"I think one of the biggest PS3 games for us will be Resistance 2. We expect that, in November, to go toe-to-toe against Gears Of War 2," he said in a interview with GI.biz.

"It will be our third-generation PS3 product. Insomniac, having shipped Resistance 1, quietly sold a million units. And then Ratchet & Clank last fall. This is the third on their technology shipping in November."
