Batman VR promises to be a fun experience, but expect it to definitely be the last we see of the Dark Knight from Rocksteady Games for the foreseeable future. In a new interview with Eurogamer, Dax Ginn confirmed that they've concluded work on the final instalment of the franchise and are now in the "enviable" position of being able to tell publisher Warner Bros. what their next "dream game" is.
"We submitted [Batman VR to Sony] last week which was an awesome experience. One of the developers celebrated the game 'going gold' by dressing up in a gold spandex suit and bringing in a golden boom box. I think we've proven that we're a hardworking team. We work well together, and we can really decide what's best creatively for our own destiny." Could that be the long rumoured Superman game it's been said that the Rocksteady team are working on? We'll have to wait and see.
"I think there's a little bit of sadness on the team. It feels like... breaking up?" he continued when asked to elaborate on how it feels to be moving on to something other than Batman. "[The mood] is really split - there's a feeling in the office like, it's definitely time to do something else - we all accept that. But we all know Batman so well - we all feel comfortable in the Arkhamverse. We're definitely letting go of that comfort blanket and putting ourselves in the position where whatever we do next is going to feel very different. There's always an anxiety associated with change and that's where we want to be. We want to feel uncomfortable because we want to make awesome stuff."
It sounds like whatever is next for Rocksteady may not be superhero related, but whatever they have planned should be a treat for gamers. What sort of project would you like to see them tackle next?
