In September of last year, during a Nintendo Direct live stream, Square Enix revealed that they would be releasing a bunch of Final Fantasy games; including titles like
Final Fantasy VII,
Final Fantasy IX, and even
Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition, amongst others.
These
Final Fantasy titles, however, were not exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, since Square Enix announced, right after the Nintendo Direct was over, that all of these games would also become available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam.
All of the
Final Fantasy games announced by the developer have been releasing at different dates, and now is Square Enix's iconic Final Fantasy VII's turn to shine — as it releases today for the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One with a nostalgic launch trailer.
As a new feature,
Final Fantasy VII for the Switch and Xbox One will allow players to activate the 3x speed mode, turn off battle encounters, and a new battle enhancement mode.
Take a look:
The world has fallen under the dominion of the Shinra Electric Power Company, a sinister corporation that has monopolized the planet's very life force as Mako energy. In the urban megalopolis of Midgar, an anti-Shinra rebel group calling themselves Avalanche have stepped up their campaign of resistance. Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinra's elite SOLDIER unit now turned mercenary, lends his aid to the rebels, unaware that he will be drawn into an epic battle for the fate of the planet, while having to come to terms with his own lost past.
Final Fantasy VII is available for the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One today.
