In a recent entry posted on Square Enix's official blog for the highly anticipated
Final Fantasy VII Remake, Director and Concept Designer Tetsuya Nomura has revealed some interesting details about the upcoming title; including that they are already working on its sequel.
For starters, Nomura mentions that
Final Fantasy VII Remake is still a full-fledged game — even when this game is only focusing on the Midgard section of the original; asking fans not to worry about the size of the game.
"
Opportunities for discussing our true intentions are few, but with regard to the size of the game that many are asking about – there’s no reason at all to worry," explains Nomura while also adding that "
Even in this Midgar portion alone, the density and volume are so great that I had to give directions to lighten them."
In regards to Midgard, Nomura reveals that players should expect new things; including a new final boss that isn't the one most fans would associate with Midgard.
"When you think of Midgar’s final boss, you probably think of the M.O.T.O.R., but in this game new bosses will appear and add to the excitement of the story even more."
To wrap things up, Nomura states that the development team at Square Enix has already begun working on the sequel to
Final Fantasy VII Remake; definitely some great news for fans of the original game, and the
Final Fantasy series as a whole.
"
We’ve already begun working on the next one as well, but I’m confident that playing through this title will expand your expectations just like the world that extends beyond Midgar," revealed Nomura.
In Midgar, a city controlled by the mega-conglomerate Shinra Inc., the No. 1 Mako Reactor has been blown up by a rebel group, AVALANCHE. AVALANCHE was secretly formed to wage a rebellion against Shinra Inc., an organisation which is absorbing Mako energy, destroying the natural resources of the planet. Cloud, a former member of Shinra's elite combat force, SOLDIER, was involved with the bombing of the Mako Reactor. Can Cloud and AVALANCHE protect the planet from the huge, formidable enemy, Shinra Inc.?
Final Fantasy VII Remake will become available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on the 3rd of March in 2020.
