Considering that Sony won't be helming an E3 press conference in 2019, many players have started thinking that one of the biggest upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusives, the long-awaited remake of
Final Fantasy VII, would also be skipping the expo and while nothing has been confirmed yet, there's a chance that the highly anticipated title will be showcased in June – even if not on the show floor.
According to Square Enix,
A Symphonic Reunion, the first ever official concert dedicated to
Final Fantasy VII, will take place on June 9th in Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles. Quite interestingly, Ubisoft's
Assassin's Creed Symphony will also be premiering in the very same building, just two days later.
The fact that this year's actual E3 (and not its pre-show press conferences and media briefings) will begin on June 11th, suggests that Square may be planning to reveal new details on the remake during the expo, even without Sony's help. Given that
Kingdom Hearts III's release date was also shared a couple of days before the start of E3 2018, Square may repeat that trick this year, but with
FFVII.
Rumor has it that development on the remake had to be pretty much restarted, or at least a lot was scrapped, after Square Enix's decision to take back the project from CC2 (the company that gave us the
Naruto: Ultimate Ninja series) two years ago, as the studio's work to that point was apparently subpar.
In Midgar, a city controlled by the mega-conglomerate Shinra Inc., the No. 1 Mako Reactor has been blown up by a rebel group, AVALANCHE. AVALANCHE was secretly formed to wage a rebellion against Shinra Inc., an organisation which is absorbing Mako energy, destroying the natural resources of the planet. Cloud, a former member of Shinra's elite combat force, SOLDIER, was involved with the bombing of the Mako Reactor. Can Cloud and AVALANCHE protect the planet from the huge, formidable enemy, Shinra Inc.?
Final Fantasy VII: Remake is currently in development for PlayStation 4 as Square Enix hasn't announced anything officially regarding its release date yet.
