With
The Last of Us 2 on its plate, Naughty Dog is reaffirming that
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End truly was the end of the series. Out promoting the game's final DLC Expansion,
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Naughty Dog's o co-president Evan Wells told Game Informer, "
I would say that Naughty Dog doing an Uncharted after this is unlikely. I would never say never, but we've got The Last of Us Part 2 on our plates and there's so much other stuff that [we want to explore]. We really love the franchise, but the studio has limited resources and lots of other ideas."
The constraints, both from a gameplay and plot standpoint, was something that Naughty Dog previously indicated that they wanted to move away from considering that the first Uncharted game was released in 2007 for the PlayStation 3.
Of course, the decision as to whether another Uncharted game ever gets made is solely at the discretion of Sony's PlayStation division who control the intellectual property as Naughty Dog is a subsidiary studio of the company. Should Sony demand another Uncharted game and Naughty Dog decline, Sony could easily put another one of its subsidiary studios on the project such as the Sony Santa Monica Studio (God of War franchise), Bend Studio (Days Gone, Syphon Filter series), Sucker Punch Productions (inFAMOUS) or even the recently partnered Kojima Productions (Death Stranding).
