It's been almost six years since the PlayStation 4 launched and its successor, the PlayStation 5, is right around the corner —
find out more on that here. An official
Sony Interactive Entertainment page that keeps track of hardware sales has revealed that; since November 2013 and as of September 30th, the PlayStation 4 has sold more than 102.8 million units.
Based on that statistic, the PlayStation 4 is now the second bestselling video game console of all time. Sony's most recent console is only beaten in sales by its grandfather — the PlayStation 2 — which shipped 155 million units.
As was pointed out by industry insider
Daniel Ahmad, Sony stopped publicly keeping track of PlayStation 2 sales at one point. This means that the aforementioned amount of shipped units could actually be higher. 155 million is simply the most recent official number that Sony reported.
The same can be said for all of Sony's older consoles. However, as the information is unknown, the silver medal goes to the PlayStation 4. Below you can check out how the respective sales of Sony's many consoles compare to each other.
