Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is still recruiting. Publisher Focus Entertainment announced yesterday that Saber Interactive's third-person shooter has now reached 15 million players, more than two years after it first launched.
The milestone was also confirmed in the latest financial report from PULLUP Entertainment, Focus's parent company, which listed "15 million unique players since the game's launch." That count includes players who jumped in through subscription services, so it covers more than straight sales.
Year 3 Has Brought Players Back
The timing of the milestone is no accident. The game's Year 3 live update launched at the start of this month, and PULLUP says it kicked off a new engagement and acquisition cycle. According to the company, Space Marine 2 recorded its highest weekly activity on Steam since October 2024, the month after the game launched.
That is a big deal for a game in its third year. Most action games see their player counts settle well before then, but Saber has kept a steady stream of free updates, new Operations missions, PvP content and cosmetics coming, and the Year 3 update clearly gave lapsed players a reason to suit up again.
PULLUP CEO Geoffroy Sardin pointed to the game's excellent momentum in the report, saying Year 3 had driven "a new acquisition cycle and record engagement on Steam."
From 7 Million To 15 Million
The climb has been steady. Space Marine 2 passed 7 million players in June 2025, and Focus announced 12 million at the end of April this year. That means roughly 3 million new players have joined in about six months, a strong pace for a game that is now more than two years old.
The April announcement came alongside the news that live support was being extended into a third year, with more free updates and DLC. The team said at the time that anything that did not make it into the Year 2 roadmap would roll over into Year 3, and that all of that postponed content would remain free.
Year 2 also brought some of the most requested features. Patch 13 introduced wargear sharing so players could equip capes and Iron Halos on classes that could not use them before, a new Operation on Kadaku, a big Siege mode overhaul with the Hive Tyrant and Vortex Beast as bosses, and a Battle Barge practice arena for testing weapons. Those kinds of updates have kept the community engaged and set the stage for Year 3.
Space Marine 2 Keeps Paying Off For Focus
The game is still one of the biggest earners in PULLUP's lineup. The company reported second quarter revenue of 57 million euros, up 7.0 percent year over year, with its back catalogue up 8.1 percent. Space Marine 2 is a large part of that back catalogue performance, and the new player surge suggests it will keep contributing for some time.
Space Marine 2 released in September 2024 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and PC. It quickly became one of the best-selling Warhammer games ever, thanks to its brutal melee combat, huge Tyranid swarms and a campaign that brought back Lieutenant Titus from the 2011 original.
Space Marine 3 Is Already On The Way
Focus and Saber are not slowing down. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 has already been announced, with Saber returning to develop it. The team has said that Space Marine 2 will keep receiving support while work on the sequel continues, which lines up with the strong Year 3 rollout.
Saber has been especially busy lately. The studio also recently released Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival, and it has a John Wick game on the way, but the Space Marine series remains one of its signature franchises.
For fans who have been away since launch, there has never been more to do. Between the extra Operations, new classes and weapons, and the steady flow of seasonal content, the version of Space Marine 2 available now is far beefier than the one that arrived in 2024.
Hitting 15 million players also puts Space Marine 2 in rare company for a licensed game. Warhammer 40,000 has always had a devoted fan base, but numbers like these show Saber's take on Titus and the Ultramarines has reached far beyond the tabletop crowd.
Are you one of the 15 million players who has jumped into Space Marine 2, and have you checked out the Year 3 update yet?
