It looks like A$AP Rocky is the next big name heading to Fortnite. The rapper shared a short teaser for a collaboration on his Instagram Story earlier this week, and the clip packs in a surprising number of clues about what Epic Games has planned next.
The teaser is only about eight seconds long, but fans have already gone through it frame by frame, and it seems to connect to something many players have been noticing on the map for a while.
What The A$AP Rocky Teaser Shows
The clip is animated in a striking red-and-black anime style, which is a departure from the usual look of a Fortnite collab trailer. It features a few key elements.
- A female assassin skin wielding a katana
- A$AP Rocky's own Fortnite skin
- The Yacht, a fan-favorite location from Chapter 2 Season 2
- Pirate chests and a pirate flag
- A Rocket Launcher and a bazooka marked with "Don't Be Dumb"
The katana-wielding assassin has also popped up outside the game. The same character has reportedly appeared in real-world subway station ads in the UK, the United States and Japan, suggesting this is part of a larger marketing campaign.
The "Don't Be Dumb" text is a phrase fans will instantly connect to Rocky's music, so the weapons look like they could be part of his collab set or an in-game event tied to him. Branded weapon wraps or a special version of the Rocket Launcher would fit right in with how Fortnite has handled music collabs in the past, though Epic has not shared any details on what exactly will be included.
Those Pirate Chests Already Play His Music
The most interesting detail ties back to something players can already find in the game. Pirate chests have been sitting on the current Chapter 7 Season 4 island, and when players find one, it plays A$AP Rocky's song "Riot."
That makes it pretty clear the chests were planted as an early tease for this collaboration. The pirate flag in the clip and the return of The Yacht also point toward a pirate theme for the next stretch of content, most likely the upcoming Chapter 7 mini-season.
The chests had already sparked plenty of speculation among fans, with some wondering if they were connected to a bigger pirate-themed crossover. The A$AP Rocky teaser gives them at least one solid answer, though it does not rule out other partners joining the same update.
When Could The Collab Arrive?
Epic Games has not officially announced a date for the A$AP Rocky collaboration. Some leakers and fans believe the mini-season could kick off around November 1st, but that is speculation for now and should be treated as such until Epic confirms it.
Epic also has not shared its own announcement for the collab on its official channels as of this writing, so the teaser from Rocky's Instagram Story is the main confirmation that it is happening.
Another Music Star Joins The Island
Fortnite has a long history of bringing in music stars, from in-game concerts to Icon Series skins for artists like Travis Scott, Ariana Grande, Eminem and Snoop Dogg. A$AP Rocky would be the latest artist to get the treatment, and the anime-inspired presentation suggests Epic is going for a more stylized take than usual.
The collab also lands in the middle of a busy stretch for Fortnite. Fortnitemares is in full swing, with horror icons and spooky islands taking over the game, so a pirate-themed mini-season would mark a big tonal shift once Halloween wraps up.
Would you grab an A$AP Rocky skin as soon as it hits the Item Shop, or are you more excited about the pirate theme and the return of The Yacht?
