A couple of days ago, many reports claimed that Sony wouldn't be showing up at E3 2020 this year — just as they didn't last year. It turns out that those sources were reliable as the Sony has now officially confirmed (via
GamesIndustry) that they won't be attending. Below is an official statement from Sony to do with their decision to remain absent from the annual gaming convention:
We have great respect for the ESA [the organisation behind E3] as an organisation, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favourite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans.
Sony certainly has enough going on that it could host its own event solely dedicated to PlayStation and the reveal of the PlayStation 5. During CES 2020, they revealed the logo for the PlayStation 5. That alone managed to top the full reveal of Xbox Series X and become the most popular image on Instagram with over five million likes —

On that note,
Sony recently announced Experience PlayStation. This event will run from January 14th until February 16th and be all about PlayStation's corner of the gaming world. Many believe that this event will feature the long-awaited and highly-anticiapted reveal of the PlayStation 5.
However, even if Experience PlayStation doesn't feature the big reveal; it's safe to assume that Sony will basically host an E3 of their own — one specifically dedicated to PlayStation.
