Yakuza: Like a Dragon is the next entry in Sega and Ryū ga Gotoku's critically acclaimed Yakuza series, which saw the ending of Kazuma Kiryu's story in Yakuza: The Song of Life, and was brought back as somewhat of a spin-off series that takes place in the same world, but with a new protagonist.

Toshihiro Nagoshi, producer of the Yakuza series, has been revealing a bunch of new details about Yakuza: Like a Dragon, including the fact that this new entry will be trying something new by introducing a turn-based combat system akin to the one used in role-playing titles.

The latest bit of information Nagoshi has shared about Yakuza: Like a Dragon is that some characters from previous titles in the Yakzua series will also be making an appearance in the game; keeping the events of the new game seamlessly connected with the world in which the series takes place.

In a recent stream, Toshihiro Nagoshi was asked if other characters from the Yakuza series would show up in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, to what Nagoshi replied saying that "Majima, Saejima, and others will be there… like Daigo."

Nagoshi then went on to explain that these characters would only make small cameos, since it wouldn't be right for them to be part of the whole game; considering that this is a brand-new story.

"I think that’s all I can say. They’ll be there, but the volume of how much varies for each of them. It would be a little strange if they were always around, right?"

Yakuza: Like a Dragon still doesn't have an official release date here in the West, but Sega and Ryū ga Gotoku have reassured that the game will become available at some point in 2020. The game is, however, releasing in Japan on the 16th of January, so it is likely that it will end up being localised within the next 6 months since then.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon introduces a new main protagonist for the first time since the series’ inception over a decade ago — Ichiban Kasuga, a low-level yakuza member looking to prove his self-worth, and follows him and his motley crew of unlikely allies as they attempt to rise from rags to riches in this modern human drama.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is expected to release for the PlayaStation 4 in 2020.
