Games Workshop is officially producing an all-new animated series set in the rich universe of the vastly popular
Warhammer 40,000 franchise. Titled
Angels of Death, the upcoming animated show will closely follow the visceral exploits of a band of Blood Angels Space Marines as they face Mankind’s enemies, death and worse - the dreaded Black Rage, a genetic flaw that creates mental instability.
Angels of Death is being developed by Games Workshop and Richard Boylan, an artist responsible for two fan films set in the brutal
Warhammer world
Helsreach and
Guardsman. "
We’re bringing the grim darkness of the far future to life like never before. Get ready for epic battle, heroic sacrifice, loads of explosions, brutal close-combat chainsword duels, and some pathos-laden dialogue that’ll fill your belly with fire and stretch your heart strings to breaking," Games Workshop said in a press release.
“
I’m pretty limited in what I can say, other than myself and Boman Modine, the producer/writer of Guardsman were approached to create an animated series,” Boylan told Polygon. “
It’s basically going to be like my Helsreach series only with full Games Workshop support and an actual budget, which is awesome on their part!” In the company's opinion,
Helsreach "
wasn’t even close to their A-game."
