The eagerly awaited Update 1.8, dubbed "Resistance," for Tom Clancy's The Division, is set to arrive tomorrow. The update, which is the largest free update the game has seen since launch, provides a ton of new gameplay features and expands the game map with a new area: West Side Pier.
West Side Pier will be accessible to all players and introduces a variety of open world activities spread across the entire map. It also introduces two new game modes: Resistance, a PvE mode, and Skrimish, a PvP mode.
Resistance is a wave-based mode where the different factions team up for the first time to fight against Division agents. The goal for the agents is to survive for as long as they can while varied enemy NPCs continuously spawn in waves. Enemies will drop resources that can be used to either set up defenses or extend the battlefield, offering more tactical options to the players.
In Skirmish, two teams of four players will compete against each other to get the highest number of kills before time expires. Points are earned each time a downed enemy player is eliminated.
In addition to these new modes, Update 1.8 also introduces a new social hub, improvements to the Underground DLC, a revamp of the rogue mechanics, as well as an optimization of the gear system letting players improve the stats of their favorite equipment.
Update 1.8 "Resistance" will arrive tomorrow, December 5, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Coinciding with its release is a free DLC week spanning from December 5 through December 10, and providing unlimited access to all three expansions for the game. This free period will be offered across all available platforms and offered to free weekend players, which takes place December 7 through December 10. During this period, the full game will be free to new players on available platforms.
