One of the most unexpected things to come out of E3 2019 was the announcement of a video game based on the
Blair Witch film franchise. I say franchise, but there have only been two movies — one which debuted in 1999 and another that arrived seventeen years later.
Like the films of which it is based, the
Blair Witch game hails from the horror genre. Bloober Team, its developers (who are best known for
Layers of Fear), have quite clearly taken some inspiration from the likes of
Outlast,
Slender, and and the
Resident Evil game series.
The player will assume the role of a man who enters an ominous forest in search of a missing person. He quickly realises that there's more to the forest than meets they eye but must traverse through it alongside his dog, Bullet.
Bloober Team has released a new trailer for the upcoming video game which shows off actual gameplay footage. Again, it's quite similar to those aformentioned games — what with the protagonist traversing with a video camera in hand.
Another interesting gameplay feature would be that you're able to command Bullet. We're shown the player-character instructing him to "Seek," but there are multiple other options available to. Based on their icons, it appears that one will allow you to tether him on a leash and another will let you tell Bullet to stay.

Blair Witch will be coming to the Xbox One and PC on August 30th, 2019.
