There's little to no doubt that Microsoft is working hard on the successor to Xbox One, the console that was supposed to follow PlayStation 3's path as an all-around home entertainment center, powered by Microsoft's cloud technology. As we all know, that experiment blew up in the Big M's face and the eight generation of consoles belongs to PlayStation 4 - the machine that's main feature is running games.
In a recent interview with Famitsu, Xbox Division Head Phil Spencer confirmed that Microsoft’s hardware teams are “deep into architecting” the next Xbox consoles and the developers are doing their best to deliver on the “commitment to set the benchmark for console gaming" promise.
According to Spencer, Xbox One X was a step in the right direction, but he would like to further improve on that and launch even a more powerful, more accessible console. The long journey to build this new piece of hardware has already begun, and the executive promises his team has taken lessons from the Xbox One backlash and acknowledges that frame rate and resolution are very important.
At this moment, Microsoft is committing to harness the “full breadth of its resources to deliver the future of play.” Spencer would like to use the power of artificial intelligence to make the experiences more believable while simulating how a game is played. Microsoft still puts faith in the cloud and the company's is building a game streaming network to unlock console-quality gaming on any device.
