It's no secret that Dave Bautista wants to star in a Gears of War movie. The Guardians of the Galaxy actor even went so far as to call Marcus Fenix his "dream role."
With Netflix announcing plans to move forward with a live-action Gears of War movie, Dave Bautista has already taken to social media to remind everyone just how awesome he'd look bringing the video game character to life. Bautista posted a quick video to Twitter in which he's dressed in the signature armor from Gears of War.
"I can't make this any easier," he wrote, tagging the official Netflix and Gears of War acounts.
The footage actually comes from the 2019 trailer for Gears 5 in which Dave Bautista was available in as a playable DLC character. But nonetheless, he looks like a total badass in the armor.
It seems others think Dave Bautista would make a good Marcus Fenix as well. Gears of War series creator Cliff Bleszinski posted on Twitter his ideal casting for the film. He specifically mentioned Bautista for Marcus Fenix and a desire to see a Latino actor for Dom. He also named Ryan Reynolds as the "perfect Baird."
Netflix hasn't shared any actual details regarding the Gears of War project. Plot details and casting decisions are likely to come at a later date, but it never hurts to get your name out there if it's your dream role -- which is exactly what Gears of War would be for Dave Bautista.
The actor revealed in previous interview that he once turned down a role in the Fast and Furious franchise to pursue a Gears of War movie. “They wanted to talk to me about Fast and the Furious, and I said 'I’m not interested, let’s talk about [Gears of War character] Marcus Fenix,’” he said in an interview back in 2021.
While Dave Bautista looks like the perfect casting for Marcus Fenix, we simply don't know how closely the movie will follow the video game series. While the video games focused on Marcus Fenix leading the fight to save humanity from the Locust Horde, it's possible that Netflix's movie takes a different approach and maybe introduces a new set of characters. If, for some reason, Bautista isn't cast in the live-action movie, there's at least hope that he could provide a voiceover in the planned adult animated series that Netflix also announced.
