Eurogamer's source close to the project told the website that Microsoft, the owner of the Fable franchise tasked Playground Games, the studio responsible for the Forza: Horizon series to revive the franchise, confirming the previous rumors that the Fable series is set to return.
Apparently Microsoft has finally realized that Xbox One is staying behind Nintendo Switch and Playstation 4 when it comes to exclusives and is planning to make a significant investment in Playground's new office in Royale Leamington Spa with more that 200 people set to work on the game.
The source of these revelations confirmed that the project is in its early days of development with the studio assembling the team. Ex-Lionhead staff said Eurogamer that his excitement is mixed with sadness, because Lionhead never got a chance to make a proper Fable III sequel. "On the one hand it's great for the UK games industry, and very pleasing that Fable isn't dead; indeed, it will be lovely to play one as a punter, without coming out in hives. On the other hand it is a little curious to get rid of the team that is uniquely expert in making Fable, and then try and make Fable. Fable is a weird game, and a tough one to deconstruct for a new team. That said, the team in question is very talented, and I'm sure they'll do a fantastic job," Fable co-creator Simon Carter explained.
Microsoft hasn't made any announcements regarding the next Fable game.
