Unsurprisingly, after the immense backlash that followed the release of Mass Effect: Andromeda, EA and BioWare haven't offered a whole lot of insight into the future of the franchise aside from some assurances that they weren't done with the series.
However, within his report on EA's plans to overhaul Anthem, Kotaku's Jason Schreier also touched upon the state of Mass Effect, noting that sources have told him that a new title "is in very early development at" BioWare's Edmonton office.
Considering it's still in the early stages, Schreier didn't have a lot of information on the potential game, but he did add that Mike Gamble is set to direct the next entry in the franchise. While Gamble has produced several BioWare games, including Mass Effect: Andromeda, he has yet to helm any of the past series' past installments.
If true, Gamble will be the third person to direct a Mass Effect title, as Casey Hudson helmed the first three games while Mac Walters took the reigns of Mass Effect: Andromeda.
