Xbox Exclusive AVOWED Pushed Back To 2025 To Give Gamers "Breathing Room" This Holiday Season

Obsidian Entertainment's action role-playing game Avowed has been pushed back from its holiday 2024 release window to February 18, 2024, where it will face less competition.

Obsidian Entertainment's action role-playing game has been delayed until early next year but not because of any development issues. Instead, the highly anticipated game is being pushed back to "give players' backlogs some breathing room."

Avowed was previously set to launch this holiday season. An accidental post back in June leaked a release date of November 12, 2024, though it was never confirmed. But with so much competition and only so many consumer dollars to go around, Microsoft has pushed it back a few months. It will now be released on February 18, 2025.

"So many games coming!" Xbox wrote in a post on X that highlighted all of the announced first party Xbox games that have been announced so far. The list includes Fable, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Indiana Jones and the Great CircleDoom: Dark Ages, and more.

Looking at the list, here are the known release dates for the games pictured:

  • World of Warcraft: The War Within - August 26, 2024
  • Age of Mythology: Retold - September 4, 2024
  • Ara: History Untold - September 24, 2024
  • Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred - October 8, 2024
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 - October 25, 2024
  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 - November 19, 2024
  • Indiana Jones and the Great Circle - 2024 TBA
  • Starfield: Shattered Space - 2024 TBA
  • TowerBorne - 2024 TBA
  • Avowed - February 18, 2025
  • South of Midnight - 2025
  • Doom: The Dark Ages - 2025
  • Fable - 2025
  • And More...

Clearly, Avowed faced some stiff competition this holiday season. Not only is this move good for consumers' wallets but the extra breathing room should hopefully help the game's sales.

What's not shown above are the third-party titles also set to arrive this holiday season. Among them are Assassin's Creed Shadows (November 15, 2025), Dragon Age: The Veilguard (Holiday 2024), Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (October 25, 2024), and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl (November 20, 2024).

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was originally slated to release on September 5, but was delayed last week to give developers a chance to fix "unexpected anomalies." Meanwhile, EA has yet to announce the exact release date for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, although the publisher narrowed its window from October through December 2024.

Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, Avowed is a highly anticipated first-person fantasy RPG. We were recently treated to a 30-minute gameplay video at Xbox Games Showcase this summer.
