343 Industries is really putting the doom and gloom into Halo 5. The new TV spot shown during Sunday night football is no exception. Watch it here

Would Microsoft and 343 Industries really kill off one of the most recognized characters in video game history? Most likely not, but the possibility is there.

The official synopsis for Halo 5:

"A mysterious and unstoppable force threatens the galaxy, the Master Chief is missing and his loyalty questioned."

Quotes From Voice Actors:

"He is human, he's always been human, but at the end of Halo 4 he really is reflecting on who he is and why he exists," -Bonnie Ross

"It's more about what he's searching for versus what the UNSC is asking him to do."
-Bonnie Ross

"Going into Halo 5, we're asking who he is as a man, not as the super soldier. When he's thinking about what he wants to do, thinking for his own reasons on why he's fighting, and who he's fighting for, I look at it more as this being the start of his journey." -Bonnie Ross

"You won't know what the purpose of finding Master Chief is [right away]. Or what will happen if we do find him, what condition he will be in, and where he's at mentally. But I'm sure that'll be a plot twist in Halo 5."
-Mike Colter (Agent Locke)

"He is deliberately masking his appearance. And that is all you're getting." -Frank O'Connor

Master Chief & Blue Team:

Master Chief is pushing himself more and more while looking for who he is. There must be a good reason he has gone AWOL (more to come later) or intentionally missing.

In the blue team trailer (above) Master Chief mentions to infinity that "she" is in there with hostile. Could this be the thing or person he is looking for? Could this be Cortana? Mike Colter mentioned in an interview with IGN that

"When [Locke] goes into Halo 5, you'll see him transition into a Spartan, a super soldier. It's a prominent role within the game," he said. "Obviously Master Chief will be involved, Cortana, but Locke will be one of the playable characters in Halo 5."

Although, we don't know what role Cortana will play in Halo 5, we just know that she will indeed have a role. Many believe that Master Chief will be having hallucinations of Cortana throughout the game and that is why he is on his "finding himself" mission. The one thing that has been confirmed is that he is looking for something. Whatever his reasons are, he and his blue team go missing and the UNSC task agent Locke with finding them.

Agent Locke & Team Osiris:

Starting with the Halo 2 Cut-scenes From the Master Chief Collection. In these videos, which many people have forgotten about give many details to Agent Locke's mission.

Agent Locke when asked by the arbiter whether "Master Chief" was friend or foe states, "He's gone awol and the UNSC want him back...I'm going to bring him home." He mission is to figure out why Master Chief is doing what he is doing.

also noteworthy is that the Master Chief has fallen out of favor with the Arbiter. The Arbiter even teams up with Locke to hunt him down. The arbiter himself sounds like he will also be making new alliances, not only with Locke, but with "the keeps" to form the Swords of Sanghelios (0.:30 in the trailer below).

The Promethean:

In the E3 gameplay trailer Agent Locke close to finding Master Chief, but the Promethean have something else to say about it.

At the end of the trailer a Promethean denies Agent Locke entrance to the guardian while mentioning Master Chief had been found worthy to pass. The colony attacks very well and probably are at the hands of Promethean forces. The struggle of cat and mouse between Locke and Master Chief will be very tense. There is only one question that remains... will everything be ironed out before these mysterious attacks wipe the universe clean of life.
