Niantic has really been spicing things up lately will all of the different additions in
Pokemon Go, especially in terms of events and opportunities to obtain Pokemon that are often more than impossible to find. In the early days of the game, Trainers often complained that they couldn't capture Legendary Pokemon, but with the added Raid Boss feature, that problem became a thing of the past.
Raids are gyms that get taken over by a Raid Boss for a short time, offering a chance to Trainers to battle them. Raid Bosses are a way to gather Pokemon Trainers together to face a common enemy. Given a rating of one to five stars, the difficulty and type of the Pokemon scale as the stars increase, with a five star Raid generally containing a Legendary Pokemon, and usually taking more than five seasoned players to defeat. For example, my character in
Pokemon Go is level 30, and with a party of five players yesterday, I captured Mewtwo with only six seconds remaining. Raids can have up to twenty people participating though, so with proper planning Trainers should have no problem. If you are worried you don't have enough contacts to play with, many players often resort to joining social media groups to gather enough people for the events.
The trick about it is, once Trainers manage to defeat a Raid Boss in
Pokemon Go, they aren't simply all of a sudden rewarded with the Pokemon, it simply offers the Trainer a chance to try and catch it, and yes, Legendary Pokemon can -and will- run from you. The amount of damage your team deals as well as several other factors help determine how many you receive of a special type of ball, called the Premier Ball, which you use in an attempt to catch your new Pokemon.
So, who is the new Pokemon joining the fray? Well, it won't simply be one, it will actually be
three Legendary Pokemon that Trainers will encounter in Raids this Summer. Kicking things off is the Generation III Hoenn native Ice-Type Pokemon Regice. As the season continues, he will make way for his brothers in Steel-Type Registeel and Rock-Type Regirock, giving die-hard Trainers the chance to capture all three on their journey to become a Pokemon Master. This is a big deal, as these pokemon don't just pop up on the map every day, and it's also likely that the shiny versions of each of these Pokemon will also be released simultaneously, giving you a shot at getting something even rarer.
Do you have the skills to add these three Legendary Pokemon to your collection? The Generation III Legendary Raid Boss battles start today.
