POKEMON GO Zapdos Day: Where, When, And What To Do

Pokemon Go Fest has just passed and while not everyone was able to enjoy the festivities in Chicago, players worldwide will be able to participate in Zapdos Day, and we wanna make sure you're prepared!

While it might seem like there is a new Pokemon Go Event every other day the numbers speak for themselves as an outstanding 21,000 Trainers journeyed to Chicago to join the whopping 180,000 Trainers in the areas surrounding Chicago for Pokemon Go Fest this past weekend.

As a result for pitching in and helping to work through the piles of Research Tasks that Professor Willow had available to Trainers during Pokemon Go Fest, Trainers will now be able to participate in Zapdos Day, no matter what part of the world you live in. You don't have to make some special trip to Chicago for this one, you can get the second Legendary Bird (Zap-dos) in your own backyard, per se, as long as that backyard has a place for a Raid.

Just as with his predecessor (Articuno) two weeks ago, the situation will be similar for Zapdos in the fact that you will be able to obtain the Pokemon during a specific three hour window, as long as you beat his Raid at a Gym and manage to capture him. This also gives you an opportunity to obtain Shiny Zapdos. Some people get discouraged about getting Shiny versions of Legendaries, but during this specific event, Pokestop spins will be yielding a max of five Raid Passes instead of the normal one. What that means for you is that if you care to challenge multiple Zapdos Raids, if you do them consecutively, your chances of encountering a Shiny version of the Legendary Bird raise. I managed to capture a Shiny Ho-oh and a Shiny Articuno, myself, so don't be afraid to go after the big birds.

In addition to getting Zapdos Day, Trainers worldwide are also being treated to several other perks. From now until July 23rd, Trainers will enjoy double candy from catching Pokemon and hatching eggs, a guaranteed Rare Candy from Raid Battles, and half-distance hatching for all eggs, including the 7 km Alolan eggs. Ideally, the best thing to do is to utilise any extra Pinap Berries you might have during this time, since the boost will double what will already be doubled, maximising your Candy intake. Even if you didn't get a chance to partake in Pokemon Go Fest, you can still reap the benefits!

Zapdos Day is July 23rd from 2-5 EST. Will you be catching a Shiny for your collection?
