There have been a bevy of interesting events introduced in
Pokémon Go this year. In addition to the regularly growing list of events in the game, developer Niantic has picked 2020 to begin introducing "experiments" to the mobile game. Essentially these experiments are just more events that Trainers can participate in and more bonuses for them to achieve and so far they have seemed to garner a positive response from the community as a whole.
It seems that regardless of the response however, that Niantic has chosen to pause two of these special events for a week. First, the Pokémon Spotlight Hour, which was recently implemented a system where surprise creatures would be featured in abundance for an hour without announcement in advance. The second, the Mystery Bonus Hour, similarly provides a one hour special event, but instead offers a special bonus rather than guaranteeing a specific creature's appearance.
These two events have so far been a positive influence on the game as they add more excitement during the week when there arent big events happening and gives Trainers more reasons to get out and play. Unfortunately, for some reason Niantic has chosen to take them off of the table this week. The developer did not give any reason as to why they have done so, only announcing that the events will return next week.
It is possible that because of the current Pokémon Day event happening that the developer didn't want too many things to overlap. More likely, Niantic may simply want to gauge fan reaction to the events' pausing and use that data to judge how well these two events are doing. Regardless of what it is, these experiments will remain on hiatus until next week!
