After months of waiting for to see what Sonic would look like in Paramount Pictures'
Sonic the Hedgehog live action movie, we finally got our first look at the beloved blue hedgehog yesterday — and the reception has been very mixed, leaning towards negative.
The reason for all the backlas comes from the fact that his body proportions are too human-looking, giving him a weird overall look. The other issue that fans have noticed is that the eyes simply don't look anything like Sonic. By attempting to give Sonic more human-like traits, the designers for the movie ended up making him look like something completely different.
Deputy Reviews Editor at IGN, Tom Marks, took it upon himself to fix Sonic's eyes in order to make them look more like the Sonic from the video games, and it's amazing how much better the character looks. It's a simple fix, but one that makes Sonic look exactly like, well, Sonic.
At this point in time it's probably too late to go back and fix the character's eyes, even when the movie is coming out in November. But the most logical thing to do here is listen to the fans and re-design the character. The eyes alone make a huge difference, and it's pretty much the only thing they need to change in order to keep Sonic looking like his video game counterpart. Hopefully they make the right decision.
