Ever since the
Sonic the Hedgehog live-action movie was announced to be in development, fans have been wondering if the movie could be the one video game movie to break the "video game movie curse", especially since Sega has recently been reinventing the character and taking him back to his roots.
Today, we got our first look at Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik, and he looks pretty much what we would expect — as we knew that only Sonic was going to be a CGI character — albeit with a lot more hair than his video game counter part.
The leaked image for Dr. Robotnik was later confirmed to be the real deal, as Scott Wampler — news editor for Birth Movies Death — revealed that this is, indeed, the look Carrey sports in the movie; mentioning that his character feels like a "
late 90's Jime Carrey".
Apparently, a trailer for the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie is expected to be released tomorrow, but Wampler didn't cofirm nor deny this, so we'll just have to wait and see.
Directed by Jeff Fowler and starring a solid cast that has Ben Schwartz playing Sonic, Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, and James Marsden, the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie is set make its way into theaters, at the speed of sound, on the
7th of November.
