In 2018, Nintendo and Illumination entertainment announced that they had team up in order to produce an animated movie based on the iconic Super Mario Bros. series, although much information about said project wasn't shared at the time.
As a matter of fact, little to no information about the Super Mario Bros. animated movie has been shared at all. The closest we've gotten to any sort of confirmation that the movie was still even a thing, was Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa reassuring fans that the project was "moving along smoothly", and this was earlier this year.
Again, not much information about the movie has been sahred, but we now know, at the very least, that the Super Mario Bros. animated film is still going on track — as sources have revealed that the project hasn't been affected by the Coronavirus outbreak.
Deadline reports that a source close to Illumination Entertainment has revealed that "the past two months as an extremely productive, innovative and creative time at the company," and that artists and executives are still working on the Super Mario Bros. film remotely.
The Super Mario Bros. animated movie still doesn't have an official release date, but it is estimated that it will be hitting theatres worldwide at some point in 2022. If the sources are correct, the movie is still on schedule, and will not be delayed; at least not because of the outbreak.
