The live-action Pokemon movie continues to gain steam. Just a month after Legendary Pictures acquired film rights and announced plans for a live-action movie based on the Nintendo 3DS video game, Great Detective Pikachu. Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch, of Guardians of the Galaxy and Gravity Falls fame, are teaming to pen the script. Filming is expected to get underway in 2017 although a cast and director is not in place.
Legendary Pictures acquired the rights to Pokemon two weeks after Pokemon GO took the world by storm.
While Legendary Pictures will handle distribution in the US, TOHO will distribute the film in Japan while Universal will handle distribution in the remaining international territories.
